Hassan Nasrallah: The Hezbollah Leader Killed by Israel
Hassan Nasrallah, the longtime leader of the Iran-backed Hezbollah, was killed in an airstrike in Beirut, Lebanon. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) claimed responsibility for the targeted strike on Hezbollah’s central headquarters, which is located underground and embedded under a residential building in the Dahiyeh district of southern Beirut.
Nasrallah, who was 64 years old, had been at the helm of Hezbollah for over three decades. Under his leadership, Hezbollah evolved into one of the most formidable militias in the Middle East, boasting a military capability that surpasses that of the Lebanese army. The group has been involved in various military operations, including supporting President Bashar al-Assad’s regime in Syria and training Hamas fighters.
The airstrike also resulted in the deaths of Ali Karki, the Commander of Hezbollah’s Southern Front, and other senior commanders. The attack caused significant damage, with six apartment buildings being completely destroyed and at least six fatalities and 91 injuries reported by the Lebanese Health Ministry.
Nasrallah’s death has been met with a vow from Israeli officials to continue degrading Hezbollah until Israel achieves its goals. The incident has heightened tensions in the region, with concerns about potential retaliatory strikes from Hezbollah and Iran.
