US Readiness Plays ‘Significant’ Role in Fending Off Iranian Attack on Israel
The United States has indicated that it is actively supporting defensive preparations to protect Israel from an imminent ballistic missile attack by Iran. A senior White House official stated that the U.S. has received signals suggesting Iran is preparing to launch a strike, emphasizing that any such assault would have “severe” repercussions for Iran.
Israeli forces are at their “highest readiness – both offensive and defensive,” according to Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, an IDF spokesperson. The U.S. Embassy in Israel has issued a security alert, advising all U.S. government employees and their families to shelter in place due to the current security situation.
President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris are monitoring the situation from the White House Situation Room, receiving regular updates from their national security team. The president has directed the U.S. military to aid Israel’s defense against Iranian attacks and shoot down missiles targeting Israel.
The U.S. military is increasing its presence in the region, with additional troops and aircraft deployed to support Israel. This includes extending the deployments of American units already in the Middle East and overlapping the forces due to replace them, amounting to an increase of an “additional few thousand” U.S. troops.
