Trump Blasts DOJ for ‘Election Interference,’ Calls Jack Smith Case a ‘Scam’ After Judge Unseals Key Filing

Former President Trump has strongly criticized the Department of Justice (DOJ) for what he perceives as “election interference,” calling the case brought by Special Counsel Jack Smith a “scam.” This reaction comes after U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan unsealed a 165-page filing by Smith, which outlines the case against Trump related to his alleged attempts to disrupt the 2020 presidential election results.

Trump posted on Truth Social, stating: “For 60 days prior to an election, the Department of Injustice is supposed to do absolutely nothing that would taint or interfere with a case. They disobeyed their own rule in favor of complete and total election interference.” He continued, “I did nothing wrong, they did!” Trump also accused Democrats of weaponizing the Justice Department to undermine American democracy and interfere in the 2024 presidential election.

The filing by Smith alleges that Trump “resorted to crimes to try to stay in office” after losing the 2020 election. It details how Trump and his co-conspirators launched a series of desperate plans to overturn the election results in seven states, including lying to state officials and manufacturing fraudulent electoral votes.

Trump further blasted the Justice Department, saying it has become an extension of the Biden administration’s campaign. He described the case as a “partisan, unconstitutional witch hunt” that should be dismissed entirely, similar to the case in Florida which was thrown out. Trump also labeled Special Counsel Jack Smith as “deranged” and accused radical left Democrats of hell-bent on weaponizing the Justice Department to maintain their grip on power.
