The World’s First Nintendo Museum is Now Open
The Nintendo Museum in Kyoto, Japan, officially opened on October 2, 2024. The museum is located in Uji, Kyoto Prefecture, and is situated in a renovated factory where Nintendo once produced playing cards and repaired products.
The museum features a rich history of Nintendo, showcasing iconic video game consoles such as the Family Computer (Nintendo Entertainment System) and Nintendo DS, as well as packages of past hit game software titles. Visitors can engage in interactive experiences like playing games using giant controllers and electronic guns, and explore the history of beloved games like the Mario series.
The museum also includes a workshop area where visitors can make their own hanafuda playing cards, one of Nintendo’s earliest products, and learn to play the game with real hanafuda cards. The museum aims to be accessible to gamers from all backgrounds, with a focus on interactive exhibits and hands-on experiences.
