Taiwanese People Ready to Fight as China Ramps Up Aggression, Ambassador Says
Taiwan’s top official in the U.S., Alexander Yui, has warned that China has significantly escalated its aggression towards Taiwan, and the island’s residents are prepared to defend themselves. Yui stated that Taiwan has been closely watching the conflict in Ukraine and is ready to meet the moment if China were to invade.
“We’ve seen Ukraine,” Yui said in an interview with Fox News. “Yes, of course, we’re ready to fight. If your house is under fire, and they respond to help you with a bucket of water, would you say no?”
Taiwan has been tracking an increase in Chinese military activity, with eight Chinese military aircraft and two naval ships detected near the island earlier this week. Four of the eight planes crossed the median line dividing China and Taiwan’s territory in the Taiwan Strait.
Yui emphasized that Taiwan is a peace-loving nation that believes in democracy and freedom. He urged Americans to understand Taiwan’s values and its desire to be integrated into the world community, which has been isolated for many decades due to the conflict with mainland China.
