State Troopers, NYPD Descend on AOC’s ‘Red Light’ Neighborhood to Clamp Down on Rampant Prostitution, Crime

State troopers and NYPD officers have been deployed to Roosevelt Avenue in Queens, part of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s district, to address rampant prostitution and crime. The operation, dubbed “Operation Restore Roosevelt,” aims to clean up the commercial strip over the next 90 days and restore law and order. The area, known as a red-light district, has become notorious for its open solicitation of sex by migrant prostitutes, as well as illegal vendors and robberies. Residents have long called for the area to be cleaned up, and the recent deployment of state troopers and NYPD officers has been welcomed by local politicians and community groups. The operation involves over a dozen city agencies and includes 9 lieutenants, 42 sergeants, and 176 police officers.
