Israeli Strike on Beirut: Six Dead, US Opposes Attack on Iran Nuclear Facilities

At least six people have been killed in an Israeli airstrike on an apartment building in Beirut, Lebanon’s Health Ministry reported. The strike targeted a structure in the central Bachoura district, close to the Lebanese parliament and the United Nations headquarters. Seven others were injured in the attack, which is the second Israeli strike on central Beirut in a week.

The escalation follows a particularly deadly day for the Israeli military on the Lebanese front, during ongoing clashes with Hezbollah, which is supported by Iran. Iran launched over 180 missiles at Israel on Tuesday, leading to heightened fears of further Israeli retaliation. However, US President Joe Biden stated that the US would not support an Israeli strike on Iranian nuclear facilities.

The conflict has also led to the evacuation of foreign nationals from Lebanon. The UK and Slovakia have organized flights for their nationals, while the US facilitated a flight for Americans. The situation remains volatile, with ongoing violence in Gaza and warnings from Iran that further military responses may be forthcoming if Israeli attacks continue.
