Russian Man Rescued Alive After Almost 10 Weeks Adrift in Sea Off Siberian Coast

A Russian man, identified as 46-year-old Mikhail Pichugin, has been rescued after spending 67 days adrift on a small vessel in the frigid Sea of Okhotsk. The survivor tragically lost both his brother and his teenage son during this harrowing experience, according to Russian state media outlet RIA Novosti.

The catamaran was discovered on October 14 around 10 PM by a fishing boat navigating the Sea of Okhotsk near the settlement of Ust-Khayryuzovo in the Kamchatka region. Prosecutors are currently investigating the details of the incident and looking into possible violations of maritime safety regulations that may have led to the deaths of two or more individuals due to negligence.

Pichugin is set to be transported to a hospital for medical care in Magadan, located in Russia’s far eastern region. He is described as being in serious condition, emaciated, but alert.
