Round-the-world cruise ship stuck in Belfast since May suffers new setback

The Villa Vie Odyssey, a luxury cruise ship intended for a global journey, remains anchored off the coast of Northern Ireland after multiple delays. Despite initial plans to depart on May 30, the ship has been stuck in Belfast for over four months due to repair issues with its rudder and gearbox.

On Monday, passengers were finally allowed to board the vessel, but it only managed to cover a short distance before anchoring in Belfast Lough. A new departure was planned for Tuesday evening, but the ship remained in place. Passengers have been informed that the vessel will return to Belfast’s port on Wednesday afternoon to gather a few items before setting off for Brest, France, later that evening.

The ship’s operator, Villa Vie Residences, has been working to resolve the necessary documentation and certifications, which have caused repeated delays. Despite these setbacks, passengers have maintained good spirits and have formed strong bonds with each other during their time in Belfast. Some passengers have even become engaged while waiting for the cruise to start.

The Villa Vie Odyssey is a residential cruise that will circumnavigate the globe over three and a half years, visiting 425 ports across 147 countries. The ship offers villas for purchase, ranging from £90,000 to £260,000, with ownership guaranteed for at least 15 years.
