Democrat House Candidate Says Women Aren’t Worried About Transgender Athletes in Their Sports Locker Rooms

New Jersey congressional candidate Sue Altman has stated that she and others in women’s locker rooms are not worried about the presence of transgender athletes. Altman, who is running for New Jersey’s Seventh Congressional District, told the New York Post that she and other women athletes are more concerned with issues like equal access to gym time, good referees, and fair scholarships rather than the presence of transgender athletes in locker rooms.

Altman, a former women’s college basketball player who played at Columbia University, emphasized her support for allowing transgender athletes in women’s sports at the youth level. She suggested that individual sport committees should decide on the highest-level decisions regarding transgender athletes, while respecting people of all genders and giving young children the chance to compete.

The issue of transgender athletes in women’s sports has been controversial, with some cases of women being injured in competition and expressing discomfort about changing in the same locker room as a biological male. Despite this, Altman’s stance reflects a shift in some Democratic views, as more Democrats now believe athletes should be on teams that correspond with their biological sex, according to a Gallup survey.
