MSNBC Contributor: Trump Appeals to Men with ‘Retro, Macho’ Views, While Emhoff Embodies ‘Supportive’ Men

MSNBC contributor Katty Kay discussed how former President Trump’s campaign appeals to men with a “retro, macho” view of masculinity, contrasting it with the approach of Doug Emhoff, the second gentleman, who embodies a more supportive vision of masculinity.

In an interview on “Morning Joe,” Kay highlighted the different views of masculinity presented by the two campaigns. She noted that Trump’s campaign appeals to a traditional, alpha-male image, while Emhoff’s representation of masculinity emphasizes support and equality.

Emhoff, in his interview, emphasized that men can be strong and supportive of their wives’ careers without diminishing their own masculinity. He believes that women succeeding does not hurt men but helps all of them, as the economics prove.

Kay also mentioned that the Harris-Walz campaign is making efforts to reach male voters, as some polls show that Vice President Kamala Harris’ support is driven by likely female voters. Emhoff hopes to lead by example and attract more male supporters by talking about his love for his wife and making space for women to rise to the top without diminishing masculinity.
