Ahn Sung-jae: From US Army to Asia’s Top Chef and Netflix ‘Culinary Class Wars’ Judge

Ahn Sung-jae, a Korean-American chef, has made a remarkable journey from serving in the US Army in Iraq to becoming one of Asia’s top chefs and a judge on Netflix’s ‘Culinary Class Wars’. Born in 1982, he moved to California at age 13 and initially dreamed of becoming an auto mechanic. However, after a chance encounter with a culinary student from Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Los Angeles, he developed a passion for cooking, which was further enriched by his grandmother’s teachings of traditional Korean cuisine.

Ahn Sung-jae opened his first restaurant, Mosu, in San Francisco in 2015 and later relocated it to Seoul in 2017 to be closer to his family. His restaurant has become a focal point in the culinary world, known for its creative approach to Korean cuisine. As a judge on ‘Culinary Class Wars’, he brings his innovative culinary expertise to the show, which has captivated audiences with its unique competition format pitting amateur cooks against elite chefs.
