Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the United States, celebrated his 100th birthday on October 1, 2024, becoming the first American president to reach this remarkable age. Despite receiving home hospice care in Plains, Georgia, for the past 19 months, Carter continues to surpass expectations and remains emotionally engaged, according to his grandson Jason Carter.
Carter’s milestone birthday is being celebrated with various events across the country. A star-studded concert in Atlanta raised over $1.2 million for The Carter Center and featured recorded messages from past presidents. The concert will be aired on Georgia Public Broadcasting on Tuesday evening.
In Plains, Georgia, residents have arranged a smaller concert in the Plains High School auditorium to help the community celebrate Carter’s life and legacy. Additionally, Habitat for Humanity volunteers are constructing 30 homes in Minnesota as part of a five-day project to honor Carter’s humanitarian work.
Carter’s family and community are reflecting on his extraordinary journey from a peanut farm in rural Georgia to the international arena. His grandson, Jason Carter, noted that the family did not anticipate reaching this milestone birthday following the passing of his grandmother, Rosalynn Carter, who died last November at the age of 96.
