GOP Senator Warns Thousands Have Been ‘Rushed’ into US After Afghanistan Withdrawal: ‘Weren’t Properly Vetted’

Sen. Markwayne Mullin, R-Okla., raised concerns about the vetting process for foreign nationals on “Fox & Friends” Tuesday. He warned that thousands of individuals were “rushed” into the United States following the Biden-Harris administration’s botched Afghanistan withdrawal. Mullin stated that these individuals were not properly vetted, which raises concerns about potential terror threats.

The arrest of an Afghan national, Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi, who allegedly planned an Election Day attack, has highlighted these concerns. Tawhedi was initially reported to have entered the U.S. on a special immigrant visa but was later found to have come via humanitarian parole and later applied for SIV status. Despite being screened three times, officials believe he was radicalized after coming to the U.S.

Mullin emphasized the need for thorough vetting to prevent vulnerabilities that could be exploited by individuals with malicious intentions. The FBI’s successful arrest of Tawhedi underscores the importance of vigilant screening processes to ensure national security.
