Democratic strategists worry Kamala Harris’s initial momentum has faded: “If you’re not nervous, you’re not paying attention.”

Dem Strategists Fret Harris ‘Sugar High’ is Over

Democratic strategists are expressing concern that Kamala Harris’s initial momentum, fueled by her debate performance and the Democratic National Convention, has waned. They are urging her campaign to become more aggressive in its messaging. James Carville, a prominent Democratic strategist, stated, “I’m scared to death” about the upcoming election, emphasizing the need for Harris to “be sharp, be aggressive, and stop answering questions and start asking questions.”

The strategists believe that Harris’s campaign needs to adjust its strategy as the election approaches. With Hurricane Milton dominating the news cycle, Harris has only about 20 days to amplify her messaging. Some strategists also criticize the campaign for fine-tuning its message too close to Election Day, suggesting that they should be in the “make the sale” phase of the campaign now.

Recent polling shows that while Harris maintains a three-point advantage over Trump in battleground Pennsylvania, she has slipped in other critical states. In Michigan, Trump has a three-point edge, and in Wisconsin, he has a two-point advantage. This decline in support has led to increased nervousness among Democratic strategists.
