Caitlin Clark Caps Remarkable Season with Near Unanimous WNBA Rookie of the Year Honor

Caitlin Clark, the No. 1 draft pick from the University of Iowa, has been named the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year. She received 66 of 67 votes from a national media panel, with the remaining vote going to her college rival and Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese.

Clark had a historic debut season with the Indiana Fever, setting multiple league records. She averaged 19.2 points, 8.4 assists, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per game, leading all rookies in each of those categories except rebounding. Her impressive performance included setting a WNBA single-season record with 337 assists and achieving a single-game record of 19 assists against the Dallas Wings in July.

The Fever, under Clark’s leadership, made their first playoff appearance since 2016 and finished sixth in the league with a 20-20 record. Despite being swept in the first round by the Connecticut Sun, Clark expressed excitement about the team’s potential and her own room for improvement.

Clark’s accolades extend beyond the Rookie of the Year award. She was named the Kia WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Month for August and the Kia WNBA Rookie of the Month four times during the season. She also started in all 40 regular-season games and was a starter in the 2024 AT&T WNBA All-Star Game.

In recognition of her achievement, Clark will receive $5,150 and a trophy designed to commemorate the honor.
