Some home cleaning products can contain irritants, chemicals that can’t mix with others, and volatile organic compounds, experts said. When undertaking the task of tidying your living space, the goal is to create a safer and healthier atmosphere for you and your family. However, some cleaning products you may be using could pose a risk to your health.
“Many individuals believe that if a product is available on store shelves, it must be safe or that they fully understand what they are purchasing,” remarkedasha Sto, a scientist at Environmental Working Group (EWG), a nonprofit dedicated to researching and promoting safer consumer products. “This is simply not true.”
Navigating the American marketplace can be challenging when it comes to identifying safe products. The issue is compounded by the phenomenon of ‘greenwashing,’ where companies employ marketing strategies to make their products seem more environmentally friendly than they actually are.
