Mike Johnson Launches Swing-State Tour as GOP Struggles to Maintain House Control

Mike Johnson Kicks Off Swing-State Tour as GOP Clings to House Control

House Speaker Mike Johnson is embarking on a swing-state tour, aiming to bolster the Republican Party’s chances of retaining control of the House. Johnson has been actively campaigning across 40 states, including a recent trip through Pennsylvania, and plans to visit an additional 65 cities in 24 states in the final three weeks leading up to Election Day.

Johnson’s strategy focuses on attracting a broader demographic coalition, including Hispanic, Black, and Jewish voters, as well as union members, traditionally leaning Democratic groups. Despite recent surveys indicating a decline in support for Vice President Kamala Harris among some traditionally reliable Democratic voter groups, Johnson remains confident about Republican prospects, citing significant demographic shifts and voter enthusiasm.

The Republican Party is taking the challenge seriously, with Johnson and other top leaders, including Majority Leader Scalise and Majority Whip Tom Emmer, scheduled to visit key districts this month. The Congressional Leadership Fund, a super PAC aligned with GOP leadership, has announced a $2.6 million ad buy to support Trump in a crucial seat, highlighting the intense competition and fundraising efforts by both parties.

Johnson’s close relationship with former President Donald Trump is also crucial, as Trump continues to perform well among Hispanic and working-class voters, bolstering GOP aspirations in key battleground states. The outcome in states like California, New York, and Pennsylvania will be pivotal, given the closely divided nature of the House.
