“Wicked Star Claims Fan-Made Poster Edited to Partially Cover Her Face Was ‘Most Offensive Thing'”

Cynthia Erivo Slams Fan-Edited ‘Wicked’ Poster

Cynthia Erivo, a star of the upcoming film “Wicked,” has publicly criticized a fan-edited poster for the movie. The fan edit obscured Erivo’s face, particularly her eyes, to make it more similar to the original Broadway poster. Erivo described the edit as “the wildest, most offensive thing I have seen” and “deeply hurtful.”

In her Instagram post, Erivo emphasized that the original poster was an illustration and not based on real actors. She noted that the decision to show her face in the film’s poster was intentional, as she chose to look directly into the camera to communicate with the audience through her eyes. Erivo also referenced other offensive AI-generated memes related to the film, including one where her character and Ariana Grande’s character are depicted fighting, and another where Grande’s character asks if the color of Erivo’s skin matches her private parts.

Erivo concluded by sharing the original film poster, stating, “Let me place this here, to remind you and cleanse your palate.” The film “Wicked” is set to release on November 22, 2024.
