VP Harris’ Agenda for Black Men
Vice President Kamala Harris has unveiled a comprehensive plan aimed at increasing economic opportunities for Black men, a key demographic the Democrats are working to energize ahead of the 2024 election. The “Opportunity Agenda for Black Men” includes several initiatives:
1. **Forgivable Business Loans**: Up to $1 million in fully forgivable loans for Black entrepreneurs to start or grow their businesses.
2. **Apprenticeship Programs**: Enhanced funding for training and apprenticeship programs to help Black men secure employment in high-demand sectors.
3. **Health Equity Initiative**: A National Health Equity initiative focused on addressing health issues disproportionately affecting Black men, such as sickle cell anemia, prostate cancer, and mental health challenges.
4. **Legalization of Recreational Marijuana**: Ensuring Black men have access to economic opportunities within the emerging cannabis industry.
5. **Cryptocurrency Regulation**: Establishing a regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies and other digital assets to protect Black men and other digital asset investors.
The campaign is also focusing on outreach efforts, including “Black Men Huddle Up” gatherings, an Economic Freedom Talk series, and targeted media outreach to engage Black male voters. Recent polling indicates a notable gender gap, with only 78% of Black men planning to vote for Harris, compared to 90% who supported President Joe Biden in the 2020 election.
