Barcelona hammers Hammarby 9-0 to equal club record Women’s Champions League victory

Barcelona Femení equaled the largest Women’s Champions League victory in club history on Wednesday night, crushing Swedish side Hammarby 9-0 at the Estadi. Two players each netted a pair of goals for Barcelona, mirroring the club’s record triumph in the tournament when they scored nine goals against Fica October 2. The scoring spree began for Barça just 10 minutes into the match when Ballon d’Or contender Caroline Graham Hansen skillfully maneuvered around Hammarby goalkeeper Anna Tamminen to find the net. Clàudia Pina added her first goal in the 24th minute, and from Alex Putellas Mapión around the half-time interval pushed the score to 4-0. Pina struck again in the 58th minute, converting with a deft shot under Tamminen, assisted by Aitana Bonmatí, the 2023 Ballon d’Or Fémin winner. Just 15 minutes later, Ewa Pajor extended the lead to six, following a strong run down the wing by Graham Hansen. Goals from substitute Ee Brts brought the tally to 8-0, and Fridolina Rolfö capped off the rout with a penalty.

Barcelona will next compete against Levante in Spain’s Liga F on Sunday. Their upcoming match in the Women’s Champions League will be against the Austrian team St Pölten on November 12.
