Sydney Sweeney States Her New Role Is Unlike Anything She’s Done Before

Sydney Sweeney’s Dramatic Transformation for New Role

Actress Sydney Sweeney has undergone a significant transformation to portray boxing legend Christy Martin in an upcoming biopic. The 27-year-old Euphoria star was spotted on set in Charlotte, North Carolina, looking unrecognizable with a short, curly brunette wig and blue bandana, a stark departure from her signature blonde locks.

Sweeney has been training extensively for the role, drawing on her past experience in combat sports. She revealed to Deadline that she “grappled and did kickboxing from 12-19 years old” and has been “itching to get back into the ring, train, and transform my body”.

The biopic, directed by David Michôd, aims to highlight Martin’s remarkable career and personal struggles. Martin, known as “The Coal Miner’s Daughter,” made her boxing debut in 1989 and became the first female boxer to grace the cover of Sports Illustrated in 1996.

Sweeney expressed her admiration for Martin’s strength, stating that her story is “physically and emotionally demanding” but that she is passionate about the project. She emphasized her dedication to authentically portraying Martin’s complex story, which spans both triumph and tragedy.
