LA Chargers Head Coach to Wear Heart Monitor for Two Weeks After ‘Atrial Flutter’

Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh will wear a heart monitor for the next two weeks following his departure from Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos due to an atrial flutter, a condition that causes the heart to beat too quickly. Harbaugh experienced the irregular heartbeat during the first quarter of the game but returned to the sideline after receiving treatment and an electrocardiogram scan showed his heart had returned to a normal rhythm.

Harbaugh has been prescribed blood thinners to control his heartbeat and has a history of dealing with atrial flutter, having undergone ablation procedures in 1999 and 2012 to treat the irregular heart rhythms. He has indicated that another ablation procedure could be a possibility in the future.

Despite the medical scare, Harbaugh does not anticipate missing any time with the team and is committed to continuing his coaching duties. “It would take my heart stopping for me not to be out there on the sideline,” Harbaugh said.
