Family of Missing ‘Hamilton’ Dancer Hires Private Investigator

The family of Zelig Williams, a 28-year-old Broadway dancer who has been missing for nearly two weeks, has hired a private investigator to aid in their search. Williams was last seen at his residence in Columbia, South Carolina, on October 3. His family submitted a missing person report the following day after he failed to contact them, according to the Richland Sheriff’s Department.

Zelig Williams, who performed in “Hamilton” and “MJ the Musical,” has been the subject of a growing concern. His friends in New York received an SOS ping from his iPhone shortly after he left home, which was just minutes after he departed. This alert further raised the family’s worries, as there was no evidence of a collision in the vehicle he was driving, which was found over 20 miles from his residence in a parking area designated for the Palmetto Trail.

The family believes that Williams’ disappearance suggests foul play and is not just a case of him wandering off. They are gathering all available camera footage to track his movements and are seeking additional comments from the sheriff’s department regarding the ongoing investigation.

Private investigator Chandra Cleveland, who specializes in cases involving missing Black individuals, has expressed her belief that this case exemplifies “missing while Black syndrome,” highlighting how the disappearances of Black individuals often receive less attention. The case has garnered attention after his Broadway colleagues began sharing his story, and actor Hugh Jackman made a public appeal for his safe return via his Instagram story.

Williams’ mother, Kathy, has expressed her deep concern for her son’s safety, noting that he is a joyful individual with a deep-seated passion for dance and performance. She simply wants her child back home.
