Lawsuit Seeks Communications Between Harris and Border Control

A conservative watchdog group, the Oversight Project, has filed a lawsuit against the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) seeking communications between the executive office of Vice President Kamala Harris and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regarding the southwest border and illegal immigration. The lawsuit was filed after the group deemed that DHS’s response to a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request failed to comply with federal law. The Oversight Project is seeking to compel DHS to release these communications by October 22, 2024, citing the importance of understanding Harris’s role as “border czar” during the ongoing border crisis. The group argues that the public must be informed about what Harris’s office was communicating with CBP in real-time during the height of the crisis.
