Most New York City Residents Want Indicted Mayor Eric Adams to Resign: Poll

A new Marist poll finds that a majority of New York City residents want Mayor Eric Adams to resign. The poll, conducted in response to Adams’ federal indictment for corruption, shows that 69% of city residents believe he should step down from office. This sentiment is shared by 71% of New York City Democrats, with only 30% of residents supporting his continued service and 2% being unsure.

The indictment accuses Adams of accepting bribes and soliciting illegal campaign contributions from foreign nationals, which could result in up to 45 years in prison if he is convicted on all charges. The survey also indicates that 63% of respondents believe Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul should take action to remove Adams if he refuses to resign. Additionally, 65% of residents, including 68% of Democrats, think Adams did something illegal, while 24% believe he did something unethical but not illegal.
