Anonymous Celebrity Lawsuit

An unnamed plaintiff, who identifies as “a celebrity and public figure residing in Tennessee,” is petitioning a federal court in Mississippi to declare the allegations made by a sexual assault accuser as false and to prevent her from disseminating them further. The lawsuit, submitted in mid-September, argues that the accuser, referred to in legal documents as “Jane Roe,” is making “baseless claims” that could cause “irreparable damage” to the celebrity’s reputation and career.

The celebrity plaintiff’s suit seeks a court declaration that Roe’s allegations of sexual misconduct are false, as well as compensatory and punitive damages, and a prohibition against further publicizing the claims. According to Roe’s filing, the celebrity initiated his lawsuit after discovering that she intended to publicly file her own suit, following her attempts to reach a private settlement. Roe’s attorney asserts that the celebrity’s preemptive lawsuit represents an attempt to avoid accountability for his actions and sexual violence.
