Iran’s Missile Arsenal and Israel’s Countermeasures
Iran has a sophisticated arsenal of ballistic missiles, including hypersonic missiles like the Fatteh-2, which can travel at speeds of up to 16,093 km per hour. Other notable missiles include the Emad, Shahab-3 series, and Kheibar Shekan missiles. Iran’s arsenal also includes solid- and liquid-fueled missiles, with the former being more advanced and fired from angled mobile launchers, and the latter from vertical launchers.
Israel’s defense against these missiles is primarily through its layered missile defense system. The Iron Dome system is designed to intercept short-range rockets, while the David’s Sling system is used to intercept medium to long-range missiles. The Arrow System is also deployed to counter long-range ballistic missiles.
During the recent attack, Israel’s air defense systems intercepted most of the incoming missiles, with the US also supporting the defense by launching interceptor missiles from destroyers in the eastern Mediterranean.
