Tanks Gather Near Israeli-Lebanon Border – as Israel Considers ‘Expansion’ of IDF Activity
The Israeli military has begun a “limited, localized” ground operation against Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon, following the death of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in an Israeli airstrike. Tanks and troops have been gathering near the border, with the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) deploying additional soldiers and an armored tank brigade to support the operation.
The operation aims to dismantle Hezbollah’s infrastructure along the border, which the IDF claims poses an immediate threat to Israeli communities in northern Israel. However, the deployment of ground troops presents significant risks, as Hezbollah is equipped with anti-tank missiles and landmines.
Hezbollah has vowed to continue its fight against Israel, and the militant group has launched rockets at Israeli forces near the border areas of Metula and Avivim. The Israeli military has reported that around 100 rockets have been launched from Lebanon, prompting alerts for communities surrounding the port city of Haifa and the Western Galilee region.
The situation remains tense, with Iran launching nearly 200 missiles at Israel in retaliation for the killing of Nasrallah and other recent assassinations. The Israeli military has vowed a “painful” response, and the region is preparing for potential further escalations.
