Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has sparked controversy by revealing in his upcoming memoir, “Unleashed,” that Queen Elizabeth II was aware she had bone cancer before her passing. The revelation breaks royal protocol, as Buckingham Palace typically refrains from discussing the monarch’s health and medical conditions.
Johnson’s memoir details his final meeting with the Queen at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, where he observed her physical condition closely. He noted that she appeared pale and more hunched, with dark bruises on her hands and wrists, likely from IV drips or injections. Despite her physical decline, the Queen’s mental faculties remained sharp, and she occasionally shared her iconic smile.
The Queen’s death certificate listed her cause of death as “old age,” but Johnson’s claims have added a new layer of speculation about the circumstances surrounding her demise. This is not the first time someone has suggested the Queen had cancer; royal historian Giles Brandreth also mentioned rumors of a rare form of myeloma, a bone marrow cancer, in his book “Elizabeth: An Intimate Portrait”.
Buckingham Palace has declined to comment on Johnson’s claims, maintaining the traditional confidentiality surrounding the royal family’s medical information.
