Border-district Republicans Hammer Harris, Demand ‘An Apology’ Over ‘Photo Op’ Campaign Stop in Arizona
Vice President Kamala Harris’s recent visit to the southern border in Arizona has drawn criticism from House Republicans whose districts include part of the U.S.-Mexico border. They have accused her of prioritizing a “photo opportunity” over addressing the border crisis.
Representative Juan Ciscomani, R-Ariz., stated that Harris’s visit “smells like nothing more than a photo opportunity to try and score political points”. He and other GOP lawmakers have long criticized the Biden administration for the record number of illegal border crossings since Democrats took office.
Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., suggested that the border crisis is a “feature, not a flaw” of the administration’s policies, highlighting the significant increase in illegal entries and the associated drug trafficking issues.
Rep. Monica De La Cruz, R-Texas, also criticized Harris’s trip, saying it is “purely about playing politics” and that under her watch, the U.S. has faced an unprecedented border crisis, contrasting with the secure border under former President Trump.
The criticism comes as polls show Trump with a 3-point lead in Arizona, with Harris previously leading by a point. The shift among registered voters is attributed to movement among young voters, women, and Hispanics.
