18-year-old cyclist Muriel Furrer dies after fall in junior road race
Muriel Furrer, an 18-year-old Swiss cyclist, tragically passed away on September 27, 2024, after suffering a severe head injury in a fall during the women’s junior road race at the 2024 UCI Road World Championships in Zurich, Switzerland.
The incident occurred on Thursday, September 26, when Furrer fell heavily and was airlifted to Zurich University Hospital in critical condition. Despite medical efforts, she succumbed to her injuries.
The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) and the organizing committee expressed their deepest condolences to Furrer’s family, friends, and the Swiss Cycling federation. They also requested privacy for her family during this difficult time.
Ongoing investigations by the relevant authorities are in progress to determine the circumstances of the accident.
